We’ve entered November and it is so gorgeously fall outside. It’s finally dropped below 60 degrees, and I've been loving getting dressed in the morning. I love seeing the trees change color and enjoying everything pumpkin and apple. It’s the perfect prelude to my favorite season, winter, and definitely holds a special place in my heart.
When the seasons start to change, so does my makeup look. I put away my brighter pinks and nudes and start reaching for my deeper reds, berries, and burgundy shades. Most of my makeup base remains the same, although I usually transition into a slightly lighter foundation once whatever semblance of a summer tan I had fades away. The biggest changes for me are always lips, eyes, and nails.
I love a good deep lip color in the fall. Here I'm wearing YSL Rouge Volupte in Forbidden Burgundy, a deeper berry tone. This lipstick is one of my favorites because it can start off slightly sheer but it easily be built up to match the opaque color in the bullet with an extra swipe. It’s also really moisturizing for being such a strong lip color. And the packaging is to die for. Other favorites include: Sephora’s Luster Matte Long-Wear Lip Color in Mulberry Luster, Revlon’s Super Lustrous lipstick in 740 Certainly Red, and Pat McGrath’s 004 Lipstick in Venom 1.

For my eyes, I love warm golds, deeper reds and plums, and browns for the cooler temperatures. My favorite eye palette at the moments is Morphe’s Fall into Frost palette. It’s a great, affordable collection of shimmery fall tones that work really well together. The bottom row is all mattes, which really help blend everything out and create more depth in a look. I’ve also been loving shades from Tarte’s energy noir palette as well. I feel it’s always easier to get away with a more dramatic look during the day when the weather is cooler.
My nails change color almost every week in the fall, but I always come back to a few favorites. Lately I’ve been wearing and rewearing Essie’s Smokin’ Hot, it’s a really great dark gray that leans toward purple. I also love berry colors, like Bahama Mama and O.P.I.’s The One That Got Away, and warmer reds, like Russian Roulette and O.P.I.'s Got the Mean Reds.

Fall fashion is one of my absolute favorite things. And now that it's officially fall and we’re in the midst of fashion month, there’s no better time to be talking about the changes I’m making to my wardrobe for the season. I love fall fashion more than that of almost any other season. I love the layering and accessorizing and endless options for sweaters and scarves. It’s not quite chilly enough for a full commitment to warmer clothes yet, but I’m so ready for it! Here are my absolute fashion essentials for fall this year, as well as some pieces I’m hoping to pick up.
As you’ve probably noticed as you’ve been shopping, pink is huge for fall this year! Obviously that makes me super happy, and I’ve definitely got some pink items on my list. I’ve been incorporating pink into my fall and winter wardrobe since last year, when I touched on the blush + burgundy trend, so I’m excited that the rest of the retail world has finally caught up. As I’m trying to fill the gaps in my wardrobe with pink, here are some of the pieces I’ve been obsessing over.
!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p, cb; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; cb = new Date().getTime().toString(); p = '//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js?cb=1474216019174?cb=' + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === 'object'){ if(doc.readyState === 'complete'){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, 'script', 'shopsensewidget-script');
As far as seasonal staples go, I’ve been slowly amassing all the items I need for the perfect "fall fashion" wardrobe. I have a few more items to get, but here are my faves so far. I am allllll about versatility and transitional pieces in the fall, and everything on this list fits that category perfectly.
OLIVE VEST
This staple is the ultimate layering piece. I’ve worn mine over long sleeved shirts, short sleeved shirts, even dresses. It’s a great item for putting the finishing touch on an outfit and pulling everything together, especially when it’s too cold for a regular top but too warm to add a jacket.
!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p, cb; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; cb = new Date().getTime().toString(); p = '//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js?cb=1474216019174?cb=' + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === 'object'){ if(doc.readyState === 'complete'){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, 'script', 'shopsensewidget-script');
TAUPE BOOTIES
Perfect for the transition between seasons, these shoes work well with everything from jeans to dresses. You can wear them alone or with tights, and mine are super comfy too.
!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p, cb; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; cb = new Date().getTime().toString(); p = '//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js?cb=1474216019174?cb=' + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === 'object'){ if(doc.readyState === 'complete'){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, 'script', 'shopsensewidget-script');
SCARVES
I have too many scarves already, but I’m always on the search for more! Plaids and windowpane checks are my go to scarf patterns for fall. It’s hard to tear me away from a good chunky cable knit, though! If you don’t have your ideal fall scarf, now is the time to find it! I’ve linked some of my favorites below.
!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p, cb; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; cb = new Date().getTime().toString(); p = '//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js?cb=1474216019174?cb=' + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === 'object'){ if(doc.readyState === 'complete'){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, 'script', 'shopsensewidget-script');
CAMEL WRAP
This is an item I’m still in search of. I’ve had it on my mind for a while now, and I think it’s a great alternative to a coat. It can dress up a plain shirt and jeans, or accent a dress for a night out without covering it up.
!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p, cb; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; cb = new Date().getTime().toString(); p = '//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js?cb=1474216019174?cb=' + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === 'object'){ if(doc.readyState === 'complete'){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, 'script', 'shopsensewidget-script');
BUTTON UP SKIRT
The last item on my to-buy list, button up skirts have been e-v-erywhere recently. I love the way they look with denim, black, white, pink...pretty much every color. Obviously I’m all about versatility and transitional pieces in the fall, and this fits the bill perfectly. It works when it’s warm out with flats or booties, and still looks great when you layer it with tights and boots when it gets colder.
!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p, cb; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; cb = new Date().getTime().toString(); p = '//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js?cb=1474216019174?cb=' + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === 'object'){ if(doc.readyState === 'complete'){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, 'script', 'shopsensewidget-script');
What are your essential fall fashion pieces? Let me know in the comments!
I’ve kept it pretty quiet on social media recently, but I moved this month! I got a cute new apartment near my work and I only just moved in. I'm living on my own for the first time ever, and I am so excited to make all of the interior design and decorating decisions–and you know that for me, that means lots of pink.
My new apartment is a cross between a one bedroom and a loft, so I thought I’d share some of my inspiration for my new living space with y'all today. Let me know if you'd like to see a full apartment tour! Some of the things you'll see I already have some version of, and others I'm still sourcing. I'm always on Pinterest looking for new inspiration, so follow along over there as well!
STYLED BAR CART
One of the items I already own is a gold bar cart. It's currently holding a ton of glassware and alcohol bottles, but I'd love to make it a little more stylized for its new home. Curating the bottles, glasses, and barware to be both beautiful and functional is one of the next to do items on my list.
LARGE MIRROR
A large mirror has been on my list for so long now. It probably stems back to my dancer days, when an entire wall of the studio would be mirrored–I think I'm subconsciously trying to emulate that! Every mirror I find, I'm like "nope, not big enough." But the issue I've been running into most recently has been that big mirrors are expensive. Especially if you want any kind of frame on it! I'm keeping my eye on a few thrift shops for one, but no luck yet.
WORKSPACE
In my last apartment, I was lucky enough to have room for an enormous desk–I actually used an old door as the surface! While I can't devote that much real estate in my apartment to a desk, I think a smaller one will work just as well. Not as much room for working on large scale projects, but since I've graduated from art school there have been less of those anyway. 🙂
LIVING ROOM
I have been looking for the *perfect* pink couch for months now, and I finally found one...but by the time I went to purchase it, it was completely sold out! I was really disappointed, but then I found this gray couch from World Market, and I’m obsessed with it. It’s actually much nicer than the pink one I was going to buy originally, and it’s both adorable and comfortable, two key elements! I’ve added a couple hot pink pillows to it, and I’m on the hunt for a bubblegum pink throw blanket to snuggle up with.
You’ll probably be seeing more home decor and furnishing posts on the blog in the coming months. If you'd like a full apartment tour or have any suggestions for the kinds of posts you’d like to see, drop them in the comments below!
I'm always glad when spring and summer bring around the tropical drinks. Fruity cocktails are always good, but especially so when the sun is bright and the skies are blue. Unfortunately, we've had several solid weeks of rain recently, so it hasn't been warm at all. I've decided to ignore that fact and pretend that it's summer already (while staying indoors) with this strawberry lemonade daiquiri.
The strawberry lemonade adds an interesting twist to the daiquiri, combining a more traditional strawberry flavor with the twist of lemon. I just used a Country Time mix for the strawberry lemonade. You can make just a cup at a time, or make a full pitcher and use what you need for your cocktail. Close your eyes while you're sipping this, and you can imagine that you're on a beach somewhere sunny. At least, that's what I'll be doing with this one.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup strawberry lemonade
1 oz silver rum
handful of frozen strawberries
ice
fresh strawberry and lemon
To Make:
In a blender, combine strawberry lemonade, rum, strawberries, and ice.
Blend until it reaches a smooth slushy consistency and there are no more big ice pieces.
Garnish with a strawberry and lemon slice. And don't forget a straw!
You can also switch up the flavors in this daiquiri if you're not into strawberry lemonade, by using other juices or mixes. If you have paper umbrellas, they would be perfect to add to these drinks!
The long, lazy days of summer are coming up quick! And while it seems like the possibilities are endless, it's all too easy to let the days slip away from us. I was always disappointed when I realized I didn't take advantage of my breaks from school to do fun and creative things, but instead just let my days get away from me.
I'm counting down the days until our family vacation in July, but I don't want that to be the only fun thing that happens this summer! I've put together a little checklist of all the things I want to do in the coming months to be more intentional about taking advantage of the sunshine.
Make a Eugenia Kim inspired floppy hat. I'm sure you've seen these hats everywhere, but the price tag is a little out of reach for me at the moment, so I'm planning to make my own. Keep your eyes open for a DIY post coming up in the next month or so!
Work on my beach body. The real secret to getting a beach body is getting your body on the beach! That being said, I am trying to up my fitness game this summer to tone up and get stronger. Check out some of my fitness faves.
Host a weekend brunch! Let's just face it, brunch is the best meal of the day. (Or at least the weekend.) But it can be hard to get a table if your city is as brunch-obsessed as mine is–something my girls and I learned when we trekked across town to three (!!!) different brunch places before finding one with less than an hour wait. Hosting brunch at your place means bottomless mimosas–without the $17 price tag. There are a few good ways to go about this–invite everyone to bring their favorite brunch food, plan a menu and assign each dish to one of your group, or just have everyone bring ingredients and make your meal together.
Go on a movie date at the drive in. If your city doesn't have a drive in movie theater, you can set up a projector on the side of your house or apartment building. Set up some blankets, invite over some friends, and don't forget the popcorn!
Break out the bold lips–and nails. I love trying new lip and nail colors in the summer. Bold brights are so fun, and keep me from taking myself too seriously. If you're hesitant about bright nails, or can't take advantage of them because of your work environment, just paint your toes! Nobody will know they're fuchsia when you're wearing flats, but when you switch to sandals on the weekend, you'll have the perfect summer pedicure.
Cheer on the USA in the Olympic Games. I absolutely love the Olympics. (I actually did a couple of projects during school about the Olympics–including this poster and this branding project!) The Summer Olympics are full of exciting sports to watch, and it's always fun to sport the red, white, and blue. I'm obviously a fan of the obvious events like gymnastics, swimming, and track and field, but I also love watching all the more obscure sports too, like archery and rowing. Olympians are some of the most incredible people; their stories are always so inspiring.
Buy a one piece swimsuit. One pieces are so in right now, and there are some seriously cute ones out there. I've had my eye on a few different ones–if you have any recommendations, leave them in the comments!
Update your home decor! New accent pieces are the best way to brighten up your space for the new season. Try adding new throw pillows, coffee table decorations, or switch out some of the art on your gallery wall.
Go to the beach. My family and I already have a trip planned in July to the Cayman Islands, and I'm incredibly excited about it. I've never left the United States, so I can't wait to really travel and spend a week on the beach!
Read 10 new books. Summer reading is one of my favorite things. I am so thankful for my Kindle, because it means I can easily bring a dozen or more books to the beach with me without having to pack a separate bag for them all!
What are some of your summer bucket list items this year?
