Valentine’s Day Phone Wallpaper Downloads

Valentine's Day is in just two weeks, and I've been loving all the pinks and reds taking over my social media recently. It's been a couple months since I made the holiday phone wallpapers, and it's definitely time to freshen up your phone background! Just click the link below for your phone size and save the image. I sized them for iPhones, but if you have an Android, just choose whichever one is the best resolution for your screen.

Holiday Rom Com Movie Bingo + Printable

Happy December 1st–or as I like to call it, Christmas 1st! The holiday season is my absolute favorite time of year. Everything is sparkly and exciting, everyone is generally in a great mood, and cheesy holiday movies are abundant.

Those predictable Christmas movies aren’t for everyone, but my family loves them. I mean, loves them. The storylines are all so similar, and they all wrap up within a neat hour and a half (or two hours, if you’re watching with commercials). They’re always a reliable choice to put me in a spirited mood, and nothing is better than cozying up with a mug of hot chocolate, a blanket, and your closest friends with one of these “classics.”

My mom and I have been working on a list of events that make an uncanny number of appearances throughout these movies over the past couple years, and I finally made them into bingo cards! Now you can host a Holiday Movie Bingo party and laugh your way through the predictability of these movies too. There are 8 different cards, so you can invite over as many friends as can fit in your living room. Play along by tagging @xheightment and #HolidayMovieBingo on Instagram! (Bonus: they can also double as a fun drinking game, if you so choose!)

Some of my favorite movies are the ones that come on the Hallmark channel and Lifetime, but Netflix has some great options too! Check out Christmas Crush, 12 Dates of Christmas, Holiday Engagement, Holidaze, A Christmas Kiss, The Mistletones, and All I Want for Christmas—and once if you've watched all of those, Netflix will just keep recommending Christmas movies to you until the end of time. Or at least until the end of the year!

Download the printable cards here!

Now I know you’re going to want to play this more than once, so instead of using traditional bingo daubers, try using Hershey’s Kisses or peppermints as markers! I found these adorable Kisses that look like Santa hats—how cute are they???

And of course, don’t forget to have prizes for the winners!

What are some of your favorite holiday movies? Are you a more traditional, Miracle on 34th Street and It's a Wonderful Life type? Or will you be playing #HolidayMovieBingo with me this year and watching all the cheesy romances?

Christmas Card Contest Winner!

project-life

I am so excited about the great news I have to share today. If you know anything about the scrapbooking world, you know that Becky Higgins hosts a holiday card design contest every year. She then makes the winners' cards available for anyone to download and use for free.

This year, I entered and won!!

The design at the top of this post was my entry. After working on my senior project and learning a ton about scrapbooking, I was really interested in the industry and decided to pay more attention and get more involved. I never thought I would win a contest, especially with my first entry. Guess that graphic design degree is paying off, huh?

Also, something new this year that's particularly exciting–all the cards are available on the Project Life app! You can use any photo off your phone or iPad, insert it into the card, digitally sign it, and even send them to print all from the app. They'll be shipped to you–envelopes and shipping costs are all included. It literally takes less than two minutes, I swear. So cool. If you don't have the app, you can also download them directly to your desktop and can use them that way.

Click here to see all of the winners' designs! I'm so excited I can finally share this with you guys!

Design Trends: Brush Lettering

Trends are cyclical, and everyone knows it. Much of the 80s and 90s saw a rebellion against the cleaner mid-century modern design aesthetic, influencing a more punk/grunge look. The early 2000s and 10s brought about a resurgence in precise and controlled digital type–especially sans serifs. So many sans serifs. Now, of course, the trends have cycled around once more and people are finding more appreciation in the forms created by hand-lettering. Calligraphy became incredibly popular last year. Modern calligraphy, with its hairline thin lines coupled with very thick downstrokes and large spaces between letters, has become the go-to style for everything from wedding invitations to personal notes.

But 2015 has since seen the rise of brush lettering, and it's dominating the spotlight right now.

Brush lettering features a heavier hand, and is less precise than standard lettering. Its "messiness" gives it character, and lends itself to a more personal and custom look. When combined with a dry brush or watercolor effect, the type gains even more customization options and the same words can look different in a number of ways.

How do you feel about this trend and its speedy ascension to popularity?
